Hemp: A Wonder of Nature

The history of hemp can actually be traced back to the beginnings of mankind as the oldest-known domesticated crop in the world. The stems and leaves of the plant are used in many industries, as their fibers are effective in the manufacturing of paper, textiles, and other commodities.

The seeds of the plant can be eaten whole, processed into a powder, or pressed into an oil, and are the richest and most perfectly balanced source of complete proteins to be found in nature.

But it’s actually the flower of the plant that’s been getting the most attention recently, and that’s due to the naturally-occurring high levels of CBD that can be found there.

The Discovery of Cannabinoids

Scientists discovered the presence of cannabinoids, including CBD, residing within the cannabis plant just over 50 years ago.

Interestingly enough, it was only after studying plant cannabinoids that scientists found out that the human body actually produces its own endo-cannabinoids.

Not only that, but we now know that our bodies contain a complex communication system that helps to regulate many of our cognitive and physiological processes, which is entirely dependant on these endo-cannabinoids.

We call this system the endocannabinoid system and the effects of our own body’s cannabinoids, as well as the effects of external cannabinoids from hemp or cannabis (phyto-cannabinoids), have remained a subject of great interest and study ever since.

Of course, further discoveries and developments have been slow to materialize, as access to all types of cannabis, including hemp, even for research purposes, has always been severely restricted.

That is, until now…

In December 2018, the Hemp Farming Act distinguished hemp from its close cannabis relatives, and is now classified as a common agricultural commodity, so long as it contains no more than 0.3% THC (the psychoactive cannabinoid found in marijuana which is the cannabinoid responsible for making you feel high).

When hemp cultivation respects these regulations, it is federally legal across the U.S.

Smoking Your CBD Flower

The largest concentration of cannabinoids are found in the flower of the plant.

Some of the benefits of smoking CBD flower include the enjoyment you would usually get from smoking, especially the taste. In fact, for those of you that are veteran cannabis smokers, you may be pleasantly surprised at the variety of hemp strains available, and how flavorsome they can be.

Some consumers even add hemp flower to their cannabis, to help level out and manage the effects of the THC.

Perhaps most notably, however, people enjoy smoking CBD hemp flower because the effects are pretty much instantaneous.

Inhaling a compound, is the fastest and most effective way for you to get it into your bloodstream, after all.

Also by smoking hemp flower you know that you’re getting all of the naturally occurring cannabinoids, terpenes, and flavonoids, as nature intended, rather than just benefiting from the CBD, as with other CBD-rich topicals, vapes, and edibles.

Many cannabinoids and compounds have been found to work in synergy with each other and will therefore provide stronger effects when together than when consumed alone.

The drawbacks of smoking CBD flower mainly center around the fact that it’s not very discreet.

Smoking will obviously create large, cool-looking clouds of smoke, and produce a distinctively awesome smell. So, if discretion is a big deal to you, then you’re probably better off saving your smokable flower for the comfort of your own home.
